We are seeking an editor to join a well established, successful non-profit publisher. You will be working across a portfolio of journals  handling front section material including commissioned reviews and poster articles, thought-provoking editorials and perspectives, and interviews with leaders in the field.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Commissioning and coordinating the peer review of front section material.

  • Developmentally editing front section articles.

  • Travelling to international scientific conferences and research institutes, representing the journals, keeping abreast of the latest research and making contacts in the community.

  • Spotting newsworthy articles, writing informative press releases and handling any media enquiries.

  • Writing/commissioning editorial content relevant to all journals (e.g., on sustainability, research culture, equality, diversity and inclusion).

  • Interviewing scientists.

  • Contributing to social media output.

  • Liaising with the journal teams.

  • Being creatively involved in the journals’ development and marketing activities.

Full training will be provided, and additional responsibilities may be available for the right candidate.

Applicants will have a PhD in an area relevant to our journals. Candidates should have excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills. The successful candidate will have a broad interest in science, the scientific community and publishing, and may have experience with social media activities. Key attributes for the job are enthusiasm, commitment, judgement and integrity.

The position is based just outside of Cambridge. Homeworking is available but at least 50% of your time will be in the office.
